RECORDINGS:

The program sessions that are livestreaming on Zoom will be recorded and you'll have access to the replays 72 hours after your last Zoom session. Students also have lifetime access to all PDF Handouts that have illustrated step-by-step instructions and you can create a downloadable or printed teaching manual.

Those who purchase the add-on certification will get 6 months of access to the videos and those who do not choose to get certified will get 3 months access to the videos.

Although I have done yoga for many years there was one continual challenge that I had and that was problems with my neck and shoulders.  Since I spent much time on the computer I experienced pain that would manifest in my shoulder that felt similar to being stabbed by a knife.

It was chronic.


When I went to get massages about my chronic neck and shoulder pain it was always interesting because they thought my muscles were in good shape but several therapists would say – “My goodness what have you done to your neck”. When I went to my physician in Kansas he recommended that I take a supplement to help.

Throughout the years this was never something I could resolve even though I did lots of yoga stretches and warm ups.
In 2004 when I trained with Integrative Yoga Therapy there were a few somatic poses shared and some very limited information on what somatics was.

Then later in 2015 when doing a training on Functional Yoga Therapy again somatics came up.  When I returned from the training I ordered Thomas Hannah’s book Somatics – Reawakening the Mind’s Control of Movement, Flexibility and Health.  I was fascinated and started working to understand the exercises in his book but wasn’t sure that I understood all of them completely.


I was fortunate enough to find James Knight’s Gentle Somatic Yoga and not only get help but understand the reflex patterns I had developed while working long hours, many times in front of the computer.

I have also been blessed to be able trained to be a Gentle Somatic Yoga Faculty Teacher with James so that I can better share and help students who attend my events.

I personally practice Gentle Somatic Yoga several times per week and continue to reap the benefits!

For those of you who are yoga teachers, yoga therapists, body workers, or healthcare practitioners, once certified, you are endorsed as a GSY Practitioner.

You will be promoted as a GSY teacher and join the global trend of Somatic Movement Educators, acknowledged for your competency and skill level.

You will be able to incorporate Gentle Somatic Yoga in either one-on-one customized sessions or in group movement classes, as part of your professional instruction service(s).

About Cheryl

Cheryl began practicing yoga in community learning classes in Salina, Kansas in early 2000 and loved it so much that she decided to study with Joseph and Lillian Le Page from Integrated Yoga Therapy for a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher designation in 2004.

Cheryl completed level 2 training with the Shambhava School of Yoga at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat Center. As well as teaching yoga she eventually co-owned Prairie Lotus Yoga Studio in Salina, Kansas with her friend and business partner, Kate Williams.

Cheryl’s yoga journey took her from Kansas to South Carolina where she continued her yoga training with Inner Peace Yoga Therapy, completing a 300-hour certificate in April 2016. 

During this time, she says she was fortunate enough to be able to learn from many teachers in the field of yoga therapy including:

As part of her studies with Inner Peace Yoga Therapy, Cheryl was blessed to be able to continue studies with Nischala Joy Devi and completed her 100-hour Yoga of the Heart Program for Cardiac and Cancer Patients. Nischala worked with Dr. Dean Ornish in his research for reversing cardiac disease and developed the stress management portion of his program. Additionally, Nishcala developed yoga programs for the Commonweal Cancer Help Program.

Cheryl was brought to Gentle Somatic Yoga after becoming  interested in the work of Thomas Hanna on reawakening the mind’s control of movement, flexibility and healing capabilities of Somatics.  As she relayed herself, “this led me to study with James Knight, the creator of Gentle Somatic Yoga.”


Cheryl has certified in all three levels of the GSY 100-hr Program and is currently teaching events and training certification programs as a faculty member for Gentle Somatic Yoga.

Cheryl continues to follow and study with James Knight and now lives in the Oklahoma City metro area near Edmond and Guthrie, OK.
